How important are social media?
A very strong growth in the use of Social media was obtained between July and September 2020. This was determined by the great change in social habits that 2020 brought about. In fact, around 180 million people started using social media for the first time during the first Lockdown. The increase in the public has thus determined 3.23 billion people in the world connected, in the year 2020 alone. In 2021 this number increased by + 13.2%.
How’s the use of Social media in the world?
The social leader par excellence is confirmed to be Facebook, which boasts more than 2.7 billion active users, with an increase of + 12% compared to the previous 2020.
Immediately after, in second place, Youtube is positioned. This is the best video platform out there, spanning nearly 2.3 billion users and reaching the top of more than 1 billion videos viewed every day.
The bronze medal goes to the social Whatsapp, which has 2 billion active users. In the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, Whatsapp has not only improved the aspects relating to user privacy, but has also launched the “Rooms in connection with Facebook Messenger” feature. This allows the creation of virtual rooms where it is possible to video call other users, for up to 50 people in each room.
Further down the ranking, we find the most used platform for social adv investments, Instagram. This social network boasts more than 1.2 billion users worldwide, and is widely used to promote and sell products of all kinds; its strength also lies in putting brands and consumers in direct contact, creating a relationship of trust and transparency.
Last but not least is TikTok, considered as the seventh most used social platform in the world, with 689 million active users. The platform is, thanks to the precious development team, constantly evolving, and has been rated the most downloaded app in the world in the year 2020. The use of this Social media will get bigger and bigger in the future.
Which are the most used Social media in Italy?
In the Italian sector, YouTube is the leading platform, with a percentage of 85.3%. However, WhatsApp is also growing exponentially, reaching a share of 85.2%, Facebook, standing at 80.4%, Instagram rising to 67% and Facebook Messenger, which instead is down to 55.9%. Other equally important social networks are Twitter, with 32.8% of users (currently, however, decreasing), LinkedIn, with 31.2%, TikTok which rises to 24% only in 2021, and Twitch with 14.6%.
